Well, we've made it :)
30 workouts in 30 days - I don't know about you all but I'm TIRED! haha
If you were able to keep up and complete the challenge, Good for you! Congratulations!!!
If not...but you were still able to exercise more than you usually do than that's just as important. This was a really good way (for me) to start the summer - and I feel way more committed to making exercise a part of my every day life after doing this.
Some of you may know that Nicole spent some of her last workouts of the challenge doing an overnight relay in the cape. It was incredible and down right impressive. Her and her team ("Off like a dirty shirt" was their name haha) were an inspiration to just keep going...even when you're tired and feel like you have no energy left whatsoever. It really encouraged me to look for more fun ways to workout , like roadraces in the area and group things. If you're interested in doing stuff like that let me know.
So, I guess that's it...and I will bid you Adieu.
Let us know how this went for you and what your "results" were either way!
For those who put in money towards the pot please send me (or Nicole) your final percentage weightloss to determine the winner.
Final percentage weightloss ='s original starting / current weight.
ok...now... Adieu! (hahahahaha)

Is anybody out there...? (Day17)
Hello....
*crickets chirping...
anybodyyyyy....
*tumbleweed rolls by...
hmmmm...
I'm not sure if anyone is still following this... other than Nicole and I. hahaha
Either way, we're rockin' on at Day 17. Time is really flying by.
So far this has been a really good experience, it's really helped me to make time for exercise and avoid making excuses. I've fallen into a pattern of taking one day off usually Friday but still keeping my committment by doubling up on another day. It's working out pretty well so far.
My recommendations for changing it up a bit... if you're getting bored :
~ Try a new class - dance, step, boot camp etc.
~ Take advantage of nice weather( however brief) and go for a walk/jog outside
~ Go to a friend's gym as a guest - a change of scenery is always nice (however, I don't suggest going with Nicole cuz she'll kick your a$$... no, literally, this weekend when I was slacking on crunches she picked up her foot and kicked my a$$ lol) (love you Colie, thanks for rearranging your life to keep me motivated and then do healthy food shopping with me! hahahaha :)
So that's about it for now... if you're out there...and still trying...give us a "holla"... no really.... I wanna hear your best Jay-Z style "HOLLAAAA" (and keep up the good work!)
PEACE (haha)
Kristen

Day 15: Halfway there!
Hope everyone had a nice, relaxing weekend. As you all know – today is weigh-in. As much as I don’t want to, I will go ahead and post my results for last week: 0. That’s right folks, I did not lose or gain any weight last week. I’m gonna go ahead and consider that a ‘win’, since I didn’t gain anything, yet ate LOTS of pancakes this weekend. LOLPlease send me or Kristen your results, or post them below, so we can keep track. Only 2 weeks to go! Have a great day, everyone! :)

FRIDAY!!! (Day 12)
I don't know about you guys but this has been SUCH a long week. I've made it through all my workouts so far including last night with Nicole. yikes! We went to a field near wakefield highschool and ran around a track and used the bleachers and weights to do what I can only describe as unnecessary torture haha ok, ok maybe it IS necessary.
I'm pretty sore today but I guess that's good and means at least I'm doing something right! After that we sat down and made a list of different healthy meals to pick from because I felt like I've been all over the place lately - eating all the wrong things and not enough of the right things. Most of it I took from the Weight Watchers plan.
How's everyone else doing? Let us know!
We're almost halfway there, YAY!!!

Day 10 – Hi. My name is Nicole, and I’m a peanut butter-holic.

As I sit here typing this blog post, I’m eating peanut butter straight out of the jar with a knife. I told my mom I’ll likely polish this jar off by the end of the day; she said “good, then don’t buy another one!”
She’s kidding, right? I have a jar at home, and two more at Alden’s. My sister Kristen, is trying to bribe me to run faster in the relay I’m doing at the end of the month, by dangling a jar of peanut butter a few feet ahead of me while running. It’s my kryptonite. I realize this is a habit I have to kick. No matter how many times I tell myself that this is ‘good fat,’ it stops being good if half the jar is eaten in one sitting.
In addition to losing weight, are there any other goals you all are trying to reach – quit smoking, run a mile, touch your toes, etc.? If there are a good amount of responses posted below, I’ll quit peanut butter cold turkey for the remainder of the challenge.

Day 9 : Eating Healthy - HELP!!
Sounds like a lot of us are having trouble eating healthy these days. I know I definitely am and I really need to work harder at this. I'm trying to find the strength to stay AWAY from the junk food. Anyone have any helpful suggestions? Good healthy snack ideas? I get bored kind of quickly with plain old fruit.
How's everyone doing?
It's zumba class night for me YAY!
Reminder - If you haven't already gotten your money to me or Nicole for the winner pot, please do. Thanks! :)

Day 8 (and 6 & 7)
I hope everyone had a great weekend! We had such beautiful weather, hopefully you all were able to get outside :) I did a double workout on Thursday and a double workout on Saturday so I could take Friday and Sunday off. Don’t forget the option to take days off by doubling up on workouts, which can be a short walk and a yoga session, Wii fit game, a walk around the parking lot at work followed by an ab session at home – whatever you consider a workout :)
Today is (drum roll please…) WEIGH-IN day! For those of you participating in the pot, you can figure out your % of body weight loss by dividing your new weight by your starting weight (new weight / starting weight = % of body weight loss). Please post it to the blog or send it to us so we can keep track, and figure out who cashes in at the end :) Mine is .97% for this week.
Finally, wanted to provide a new recipe for those of you that don’t eat meat, or are looking for a healthy alternative to a favorite comfort food – macaroni and cheese. I haven’t tried this yet, but have heard really good things about it (Disclaimer: it doesn’t taste like regular mac & cheese, but is good nonetheless. And low in fat.) http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2007/10/easy-macaroni-and-cheeze.html
Looking forward to seeing what I’m sure are great results from everyone! Have a great rest of the day!

KEEP IT UP!!!
Day 5 woohoo!!
Alright... here it is.... if it's been difficult to make the time to work out every day this is your big fat "SUCK IT UP SALLY!" speech! hahaha
We can do this!!
For many of us, making ourselves and our health a priority is not exactly something we've ever been good at. I definitely struggle with it all the time. There always seems to be something else that needs to be done or some other commitment I've made to someone. But for these 30 days I have made this commitment to MYSELF (and you, my fellow workout challengers haha). The way I see it... it's only 30 days. The people in your life will just have to wait and understand that this is important to you.
So remember that as the weeks go on and it gets more and more difficult to set time aside to exercise - this is worth it, YOU'RE worth it.
Reminders :
Sunday - Wakefield Lake walk at 10am. So far looks just a passing shower is expected but I think we could survive that. Anyone that would like to join us ,let us know so we wait for you :)
Monday - first "competition" weigh-in. We have 140 dollars in the pot soooo remember that this weekend!

Day 4 - Rules to Live by (...at the gym)
Good morning!
I wanted to start your days off with a laugh; my first inclination was to tell you the story about the old woman who tried to steal my shower at the gym this morning. (Don't worry, I kicked her out.) But THEN I found these Golden Rules to Live by at the Gym, and thought some of you might get a bigger kick out of these.
If not - IM me, I'll give you the full story about the old woman ;)
We all know the general rules of the gym: don't drop the weights, wipe your sweat off the machines when you're done, etc. But do you know all about the more "colorful", lesser known rules of the gym?
1. Don't blow your nose in the water fountain.
This is a crude habit and can contribute to the spread of colds and viruses. Besides, that's what the gym towels are for...
2. No smoking on the cardio machines.
Those little circular spots are water-bottle holders, not ashtrays. If you need a cigarette that badly when you're working out, tape one to the pulldown bar and take a drag on it as a reward for each rep you do.
3. When spotting someone on bench press, be sure to wipe your face first.
You are not a stalactite, and dripping sweat into someone's eye is not a good way to make friends.
4. If you choose to wear cologne or perfume to the gym, please don't marinate in it.
If the person on the stair machine next to you lights up a cigarette, you could both be seriously injured.
5. Those stands that have all the weight plates on them should not be used for holding your donuts.
Your donuts will end up with a terrible metallic taste that even the coffee in your water bottle won't be able to get out of your mouth.
6. The Crunch Machine is not a vending machine for candy bars.
Please don't try to put money into this machine. It's for working your abdominals. You will never, EVER get a Nestle's Crunch bar out of it.
7. Even though the gym has stair machines, it is not required by law to have elevator machines.
Please stop asking about this at the reception desk.
8. Pick up after your dog when you walk him on the treadmill.
No explanation necessary.
9. If you have a habit of spraying spit when you lift, ensure there is no one in your target area.
It's bad enough that the mirrors by the squat rack look like a St. Bernard shook himself in front of them.
10. Do not give yourself C.P.R. when doing bench presses.
Bouncing the bar heavily off your ribcage instead of pressing it properly may cause damage to the bar and voids the warranty on the bench. Besides that, you don't want your spotter feeling as though he's dribbling a barbell down the court do you?
11. Beer and/or liquor in your water bottle are prohibited.
Unless, of course, you bring enough for everybody. This also goes for mochaccinos, frappaccinos, and anything with an umbrella in it.
12. Use the rowing machine at your own risk.
If it sinks, there are no lifeguards on duty.

HERE WE GO DAY 3 HERE WE GO!!! *clap clap
Soooooo yay Day 3!
I don't know about you guys but when I'm losing motivation and/or feeling tired the thing that helps me the most is good music for sure.
Depending on my mood I need really angry music to push myself when running or really upbeat music if I'm using weight machines etc.
What about you, what music works best? If you have a good song that you've found really motivates you to pick up the pace let's hear it!
Right now that song for me is "Evacuate the Dance Floor" by Cascada, it just makes me want to get moving!
Have a fantastic Day 3 :)

Day 2!
"While you're sittin' on your tail, someone, somewhere is practicing. And when they meet up with you, THEY'LL WIN!" - Rev. Run from RunDMC
Ok, so clearly I need to post mine earlier in the day to give everyone a morning boost! I have to say, I could've used one myself this morning. I did get up to go to the gym this morning, but it was definitely a struggle, which isn't supposed to happen on day TWO of a new workout regime! Isn't the excitement supposed to last for at least five days or something!?
Anyway, I didn't get enough sleep last night. Which as we all know, is a key ingredient to losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Another main ingredient is water. (No, Kristen, you cannot live on sleep and water alone.) Any health & wellness article talks about the importance of getting 7-8 hours of sleep to allow your body to recuperate from the day, especially if you're exercising, and to drink 64 ounces of water. 64 ounces of water sounds like A LOT to me, but fill your Poland Springs sports bottle 3x, and you're golden :) (Yikes, I sound like Bob from the Biggest Loser! I promise to keep the product placements at a minimum.)
Also, wanted to post a new recipe today that I tried last night. Alden didn't tell me it was too dry, so it must've been a success. Feel free to give it a whirl - and if you do, definitely let us know if you did anything differently with it. I recommend Jennie-O chicken, Grey Poupon mustard and Pastene Balsamic Vinegar. Kidding! ;)

So, make sure you're drinking enough water, and getting to bed early :) Let us know how Day 2 is going for you!

DAY 1!
Quote of the day: "There will be no happiness if the things you want are different from the things you do"
Yay Day 1! I hope everyone remembered to weigh-in today to track your progress.
We have ten people participating in the competition part of the challenge so the pot will be 100 dollars woohoo! We also have an additional five people participating in the 30 day workout challenge.
I already have money from some people so thanks! If you haven't put your ten dollars in yet just get it to Nicole or me at some point.
This Sunday Nicole and I are planning to walk Wakefield Lake at 10am (my vote was for 11am but Nicole yelled at me and told me not to be lazy haha) - we'll meet in the parking lot near the baseball field/tennis courts. We're not afraid of the cold so bundle up, but if it's raining we'll reschedule. COME JOIN US and celebrate the completion of the first week!

T minus 2 days!
Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather and getting ready for a gorgeous holiday weekend!
We're only 2 days away from starting the challenge. Today, Kristen is off volunteering with our cousin and his youth group, participating in a 30-hour fast and helping feed the homeless in nearby cities while honoring Good Friday. Me - I'll be home eating whatever I want in an effort to up my chances of winning the pot at the end of the challenge. haha (Hey, we all knew she was the better of the two...err...three)
Anyway, this is also to serve as a reminder to please let us know by Sunday if you're planning to participate in the pot, so we know who to collect money from, and who should be tracking/reporting their numbers each week.
For those not looking to participate in the pot but would still like to report your numbers each week, please feel free to do so - we're happy to cheer you on regardless :)
Have a great weekend everyone, and Happy Easter! Enjoy the rest... ;)

Welcome!
First of all, wanted to thank everyone for taking the time to read our looong e-mail, and hopefully you're all considering taking part in the challenge. Nothing like a little healthy competition to get us in shape!
Over the next few days I'll be accumulating ideas/recommendations for those taking part in the challenge, which I'll start posting on Monday. As Kristen mentioned, we'll also be posting recipes, fun/different workouts, etc., so check back here frequently :)
And if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact either of us.
Thanks everyone - looking forward to Monday!
-Nicole

Bring it on!
aaaaaalrighty...... here we go!
Nicole and I decided after our vacations that we needed a little extra motivation to get it in gear. We're telling anyone interested to determine for yourself what a "workout" consists of, including a few that are very lowkey for at least two days of the week...and do it for 30 days with us!
That means if you miss a day, you have to complete two workouts another day.
Got it? GOOD!
I'm hoping we'll learn a lot from each other about getting healthy and active :)
Start date Monday April 5th... stay tuned...
